fitting in and trying something new

i have a new article on keeping a healthy food budget by shopping locally, posted at the examiner. simultaneously, i have added two excel documents under the list of tutorials on the right side of the page: 1) a spending spreadsheet, 2) a price list template

right up until my posts about our past year and self-contentedness (the writing of which really did lead me shed some negativity), i had been feeling as though i was not quite fitting in well in this blog community that i have wiggled my way into.

i am not religious. i am not a home-schooler. i am not a waldorf or montessori purist. i do not do all of the things done by those who comfortably label themselves "natural parents." i do not have beautiful, rural, snow photos to share all winter. (seriously, i love those kinds of photos!)

i am some of almost all of those things, but not fitting into any one niche comfortably led to some of those feelings of insecurity i previously mentioned. i'm the wrong shaped peg if you add my struggles to feel settled into my current role...an at-home mamma to my kids, a job so many bloggers extol the joys of. (for a lovely post on this, see what erin says at exhale. return to center.)

so, when julia of adirondack mama posted about trying, i agreed completely, and then i thought for a moment.

there is so much inspiration around us. i can choose to feel insecure about what i see others doing and i am unable to do, or i can choose to be inspired by all that knowledge and creativity and i can learn from it and others.

i am choosing to feel inspired! so much of what i have seen and tried, i have learned and am improving on. my path is equally lined with successes and pride in myself. each creative, proud moment makes me more relaxed and happier about all the other moments in my day, and yes, they have made me a much happier, better at-home mamma.

so, on that note, this year (among many, many other things) i want to learn how to make soap. (look out rhian and renee! i will be reading your tutorials very carefully and asking for help!)

what new thing will you be trying this year?

our daffodils will be showing their sunny faces soon!
