march, in review

goals
a brief check-in this month on our goals. mike and i were discussing with each other that so far, 2009 has been a year of communication and change, in the most positive of ways. we have tackled some ever-growing issues, long ignored tasks, increased our family time, pushed to get more outdoor time, really tried to stick to our environmental and financial goals, and more. so, a quarter of the way through the year, we are feeling good about our progress.

health
it took me half way through march to get back into the exercise/food swing of things. mike is still struggling to make time in his very busy day (long commute, long work load, consciousness of presence and performance due to layoffs at work), but is now enjoying the brand new gym at work. the longer daylight hours are helping and his bike is getting a tune-up, so he can resume his part-way-to-work ride.

no buying new (NBN)
bought new:
  • sneakers for lala
  • appliance baby proof item to keep finn out of the dishwasher (2pk, and i suspect the second will be used for the fridge at some point)
  • paint set for lala
  • laptop computer (an eco(nomical) eco(logical) ouch. our reasoning for buying new is here)
  • casing for our old hard drive
  • bobbins for my sewing machine (what i had didn't fit my "new" machine and it kept jamming)
budget
our grocery spending for march was: $326.27 (this includes fruit and veggie seedlings we purchased for our garden.)
we are getting better with this, although i realize i began challenging myself back in august. if i really want to get it down, i need to return to the cash-only envelope method for a couple of months.

we finished and submitted our taxes. we are receiving refunds this year, the total of which we decided would go towards a contribution to my retirement account.

home
we have continued decluttering, have sold a reasonable number of items, and been gardening to increase our consumption of local, organic foods.

so i am feeling good heading into april, despite thinking, april? already?
